Increasing <strong>urbanization<\/strong>, with increased impervious surfaces and reduced green areas, has exacerbated the negative impact of rainfall, making the need for wise and responsible <strong>stormwater<\/strong> <strong>management<\/strong> even more urgent. Without appropriate action, cities are likely to face frequent flooding, infrastructure damage and serious <strong>environmental problems<\/strong>.  <\/span> Rainfall, however, while vital, can lead to several challenges, especially in densely populated areas. Here is the list of issues to which excessive urban rainfall power exposes:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><strong>Urban flooding<\/strong>: heavy rainfall overloads urban drainage systems, causing flooding that damages infrastructure and property, negatively impacting daily life;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong>Soil erosion<\/strong>: surface runoff can erode soil, reducing soil stability and causing landslides;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong>Water pollution<\/strong>: stormwater runoff can pick up contaminants, carrying them into waterways and oceans, deteriorating water quality overall.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Strategies for stormwater management, the LEED Protocol and Rainwater Management as a strategy to protect the oceans.<\/h2>\n<p>  Effective and sustainable stormwater management solutions are essential to mitigate these issues:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><strong>drainage<\/strong> systems: the design of drainage systems sized to handle intense rainfall events and to prevent flooding and inundation;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong>Rainwater disposal<\/strong> networks: the implementation of dedicated networks that collect and convey rainwater, reducing the load on drainage systems and preventing flooding;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong>Green roofs and permeable pavements<\/strong>: their use helps reduce surface runoff, promoting water infiltration into the ground;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong>rainwater reservoirs<\/strong>: rainwater harvesting for non-potable uses helps reduce demand on traditional water resources;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><strong>environmental education<\/strong>: raising public awareness of the importance of sustainable water management and the responsible use of water resources can help mitigate rainfall-related problems.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>  The <strong>LEED<\/strong> (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) <strong>protocol<\/strong> promotes the adoption of stormwater management strategies in order to reduce the environmental impact of buildings.<br \/>\nIn our projects, we implement solutions such as <strong>draining pavements<\/strong> and <strong>rainwater harvesting systems<\/strong> (GI and LID, Green Infrastructure and Low Impact Development), which help restore the natural water cycle and prevent urban rainfall issues.<br \/>\nModern urban development alters <strong>natural hydrological systems<\/strong> by increasing the volume, temperature, and duration of stormwater runoff, causing significant <strong>ecological damage<\/strong> that can extend to the oceans.<br \/>\nOur green infrastructure design and construction and low-impact development strategies aim to emulate the site&#8217;s natural hydrology by reducing runoff volume and improving water quality.<br \/>\nThis approach allows water to be returned to the natural cycle, preventing overloading of water infrastructure and protecting <strong>aquatic ecosystems<\/strong>.      <\/p>\n<h2>Stormwater Management as a Shared Goal.<\/h2>\n<p>  Stormwater management requires an <strong>integrated approach<\/strong> involving urban planners, engineers, local authorities, and communities.<br \/>\nBy adopting sustainable solutions, we can effectively address rainfall challenges and ensure responsible use of water resources while protecting urban and marine ecosystems.<br \/>\nThus, environmental education plays a crucial role in raising public awareness of the importance of responsible water resource management, restoration of the natural hydrological cycle, and protection of aquatic environments.    <\/p>\n<div class=\"BOX_AUTORE box_trigger_line\">\n<div class=\"Cont_OR1\">\n<div class=\"LINEA_AUTORE OR1 Linea_anim1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/sfs-esg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/SFS_team_SENZOGA_RIBERT_PM.webp\" alt=\"RIBERT SENZOGA Project Manager\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<h3>RIBERT SENZOGA<\/h3>\n<h4>Project Manager<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stormwater management and related issues.
