LEED® is a voluntary certification protocol applicable to any type of building, encompassing the entire life cycle of the building from design to construction.
A definition
LEED promotes a sustainability-oriented approach, recognizing building performance in key areas, such as energy and water conservation, reduction of CO2Â emissions, improvement of the ecological quality of interiors, materials and resources used, and design and site selection.
Criteria of
evaluation
Developed by U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and verified by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), the system is based on meeting prerequisite requirements and awarding “credits” for each requirement. The sum of credits enables the achievement of 4 levels of certification: LEED Certified, LEED Silver, LEED Gold and LEED Platinum.
The protocol has several standards of assessment:
New building
New interiors
Existing buildings and spaces
Neighborhood development
Cities and communities
Residential
Recertification
Retail
Why choose the
LEED certification?
Because the protocol makes it possible to identify, quantify and enhance the “green” characteristics of properties, giving them significant added value. It also allows easy comparison of related properties in the market.
